Saatai (2012)

Saatai a movie starring Samudrakani. This movie again a proof of why people should take characters and scripts that suit them is all about a Government School and happenings in and around the same. It all about a teacher who joins a government school and against all odds brings that school to compete against the top schools in the District. The movie has a lot to laugh about and a lot to think about. The way that the new teacher shows his colleagues who all together believe that the students in their school are good for nothing to worth everything they should be working for was shown very nicely. A emotional and happy journey into the lives of students from any corporation school. Great effort and a good watch though it reminds me of a Malayalam movie (Manikka Kallu).

Mannaru (2012)

I am starting to adore this guy (Appu Kutty) for his selection of movies. A lot movies stars have to look at him and learn how to choose characters and script. No wonder he won the national award. The story is a simple script where in the star cast nick named and called Mannaru by all people in the movie, helps his friend to get married against the will of the gals family. Before the three (his friend & wife and himself) could run away from town the friend couldn’t make it to the Bus and hence Mannaru ends up with this gal who he needs to take to his house for protection sake. The movie goes on to show how bringing this gal into his village brings a huge turn of events in his life. A simple but effective script that is apt for the lead. A good watch for people who want to pass time.

The Dictator (2012)

A story line similar to The Great Dictator where in a dictator of a country called Wadiya rules his world as any other dictator does (in a little comical way). The story goes on to show how he ends up in the US and how he looses his identity. What happens after he looses identity is anybody's guess. The way the story has swung was very nice, no regrets on the time I spent watching it. What I considered the key catch from this movie was the final speech that the the hero provides on democracy (until he comes to eye contact with the gal he loves). A good time pass as I considered it.

6 Bullets (2012)

You know what,  Lately I seem to be seeing a lot of movies that are of the same genre. Though I watch movies not by Genre but by how ever they show up. This movie is on kidnapping of a small gal for sex trafficking. The movie shows a couple from America along with their daughter moving into a part of Russia for a vacation and business trip. It goes on showing how the gal gets lost and how she ends up among the traffickers. Once the gal is lost look who shows up to her rescue. It's Jean Claude Van Damme. The guy who has rocked the screens once is trying to come back through the Expendables 2 and this movie. The opening scene was fitting for Van Damme complimenting his age but later on, he is not the same lethal machine anymore. The movie was a good one excepting for the fact that Van Damme factor was really not there. Again a good watch for people who like watching action movies.

Barfi! (2012)

A nice little triangular love story between three people who get intertwined by fate. The story starts at an old age home or something of that sort where they show the Hero at his ripe age trying to take a picture of himself. Then there is as usual the flash back which is done in a pretty good way. There was a lot of hype from people around me that actually made me want for a wow factor. This was missing but still I think this is a peculiar love story said in a way it would cover a lot of people. I good watch though.

The Expatriate (2012)

The movie about how an ex-CIA agent gets mixed up in a scam set by a big corporate trying to save their face from a weapons deal that they are trying to do under the table. The ex-CIA agent is used to find a way to hack into the safe that contains evidence against the corporate. He and his daughter are being tracked to be terminated which situation he tries to handle. The heat is high the hype is good but still it could have been a lot more interesting was the feeling I had. But I think for anyone who loves scam and action this is a good watch.

People Like Us (2012)

This movie is what gets me writing again. Every single time I think I am done writing on movies something or the other shows up. This movie is just a light version of a tough story line. I have started writing this just as I am watching the same. So far so good. The movie is about a guy who is the best at what he does but not too good with his family. The guy hates his father, due to which he even tries not to go to his father's funeral. Time decides and of course he had to. What happens when he goes there and finds out more about his father makes the story all the more sentimental and emotional. The beautiful way the story is handled just gets everyone want to know how this ends. I can't imagine it could end any other way than said in the story itself.

Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close (2011)

A very nice emotional story of the bondage between father and son. A story of how a father cherishes his son to keep looking for possibilities. The story where the father dies in the 9/11 disaster. The boy over come with misery lays low for a year and then he explores his dads things and finds out a key. He takes it his mission to find out what his dad's key meant to show him and starts searching for the lock that fits the key. On his pursuit he meets a lot of people whom he gets to know and has to cope up with. Whether the boy finds the answer to his father's riddle is the story. As already said nice, emotional, and beautifully portrayed.

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy(2011)

A very very slow movie. Really made me sleep thrice before i could complete the whole movie once. The movie about MI6 and it having a rogue within the top levels. The authority of tracking and pointing the rogue out lies with a man who is retiring from the company. The way he goes around with the investigation is what the movie is all about. Nothing big to say other than it was boring for me.

The Grey (2012)

A movie of a team of people working for an oil company who are being transported to their hometown from a very cold place. The story starts with Liam Neeson hunting down a wolf. Then we see the whole team boarding a plane to start their journey and through the journey the plane crashes for some reason. Few survive the crash only to be hunted down by the weather and the wolves who take the men for trespassers. A slow movie, didn't have anything to awe about but for the visualization.

Man on a Ledge (2012)

The movie that thrilled me after sometime. A movie about an expo convicted of robbery and felony put in prison who wants to let the world know that he is innocent (and guess what he wants to do it in style). He goes on to a hotel, orders the costliest food available for breakfast gives a big fat tip to the waiter that bought it, writes down a note and what he does next is what the story is all about. He gets outside his window from his room which is in the 21st floor and gets the whole world to see that he is innocent. How he does it is the most brilliant part you need to see for yourself. One hell of a movie that would make get you on the edge of your seats.

Journey 2: The Mysterious Island (2012)

Another incredible making from the makers of Journey to the center of the Earth. The concept being the same with the awe astonishing graphics. The movie is about a boy and his step father (whom he doesn't like) starts of on an adventure to find an unseen island in the middle of no where. The story moves on to show what the island holds for them and how they bond during the adventure. The movie at last ends with the boy getting a gift from his old adventurer grandpa; a new adventure (which is going to be a sequel to this one) from earth to the moon.

Contraband (2012)

A movie starring Mark who is mostly used in films that are about illegal business and has a lot to do about planning. This movie as no exception and shows how a former smuggler (Mark) is made to smuggle counterfeit money in exchange for the safety of his family and in law. The story starts with he coming to know of his brother in laws problem with a transaction and he takes up the task to be completed. What happens and how he does it (as usual) is what the story is all about. Nice movie to watch but should say that it is old wine in a new bottle.

Chronicle (2012)

A nice movie about 3 guys who get super powers from some alien material they find underground. Of the three boys one of them is a sports man who is all famous and the other 2 book worms and as in any movie of guys with super powers these three start slow try possibilities and once they get the hang of it they start getting famous for their skills. As story goes on one of the book worms takes his skills to the next level due to problems of his own. What happens when one goes out of control is what the story is all about. A good movie to pass time with.

Marina (2012)

A movie centered around the famous Marina beach. The storyline is not remarkable. Yet another storyline as is with the film Angadi Theru (I mean in showing miseries of the under privileged).  The movie is about modern love that lingers the shores of Marina and the lives of the small boys who sell various stuff (like sundal, sangu, water packet, etc. ) who many people don't even consider. The movie shows their lives, friendships, past, ambitions and more that no one might have given a thought about. A great move by the team in bringing to light the lives of these small kids. A slow but nice movie that provides food for thought.

War Horse (2011)

A nice film about a horse that is bought by a pheasant who is very poor and has a lot of debts. He buys the horse to plough his lands but the horse is not the one for it. The wife of the pheasant argues with the choice of horse and the waste of money. The son of the pheasant grows a liking to the horse and starts training him. The story shows how the horse that is bought to work in the farms gets into the war separated from his master and how they both get united. The movie starts with a single track and moves on to two different stories as the master and horse are separated and at last joins back to give one great ending. A nice movie to watch with good visualizations.

Underworld: Awakening(2012)

For all underworld fans yet another movie with the same kind of action. The action is boosted with more gimmicks and more awe breaking but again it is the same old movie. Nothing fancy to expect, more bigger creatures might be, but nothing new, nothing big and hence just another movie. The underworld movie has been a great sense of fantasy for people who are into lycans and vampires, and guess what they have decided to keep it that way. A war waged by the humans on the hybrids to eradicate them and what happens is the story. A nice movie to pass time away with and definitely expect another sequel to come.

The Iron Lady (2011)

A story about a girl who inspired by her father wants to do great thinks for her country. The story starts in UK, a common girl born in a middle class family who had lived her life for the family and gets into Oxford by hard work. She aspires to make politics right by becoming a member of parliament (UKs only woman MP at that time). She is made fun of and ill treated but her decision to stay remains and thus she fights. Her will power gaining the most power while seeing an incompetent prime minister speak makes her to run for the office at the most critical times where war on one side and rescission on the other are her biggest enemies. what she does and how she is looked on is what the film is all about. This is the story of Margaret Thatcher of the British parliament. A woman with an iron will.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011)

The first 10 minutes of the film was boring the introduction of the characters was really slow and a bit hard to understand. Once the story started it really started. The movie is about a reporter who had been sued by the court for his entire life savings and whether he has his revenge or not. Now if I put it like that I guess it would be a normal story so what makes this one special is that the reporter is going to have to solve a murder that happened in the 60s to get evidence. Would he solve the case and would he have his vengeance is the story. I did like the way most scenes are taken though I thought there were a couple of scenes that could have been better portrayed. All over a nice thriller and a definite winner.

The Adventures of Tintin (2011)

Tintin on the big screen is always a pleasure to hear of. And when it comes from the workshop worked by Steven Spielberg it really is going to be a pleasure to watch. The movie is absolutely CG but shows very little sign of it. Everything that he has done in this movie surpasses what he has done so long. The CG is real good as so real like and the 3D technology has been used to the apt level. The movie by itself is tremendous and is an adventure on the run. The speed of the movie never slow down and that is one factor that I really appreciate, a feature that most films lack.

The kitty cat with wits is up on screens to give a performance as never before. The movie shows a completely new story about the legendary puss that we have read about. The story shows puss teaming up with other characters from various rhymes and stories coming together to create an amazing treat. the story of the new puss in cowboy style and the voice of Antonio Bandaras and Salma Hayek who have the most experience with most experience is films featuring the west adds spice to the film. A true treat to watch for fantasy lovers.

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (2011)

Yet another Sherlock Holmes movie. The story about the great detective and his faithful partner of whom we have read about in books coming live on the screens. The detective is on the verge of the case and as usual his suspicions are not really supported by anyone  other than himself. The film rolls on to show the detective loosing his beloved and the misery following him till the end of the movie until the case is solved. Another mystery solved by the detective. The screen play and the picturization are plus for the movies when the black tint (which follows from the first movie) to the picturization might be a bit annoying. A nice movie to watch.

Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol (2011)

 

Tom Cruise all the way (excepting for he has gone old – I mean not in the movie but for real). Another mission at hand and the IMF is shut down due to an external affairs issue. The team has to go rogue and complete the mission if they are to have the IMF reinstated. As usual the movie shows Ethan (Tom) doing all the usual stuff he does but in a more sophisticated environment as most of the movie is shot in Dubai and in one of the worlds astonishing towers. The run on the sand storm might be a bit hard to follow but I guess that could be ignored considering there is always a part in MI that goes a bit vague. Anil Kapoor being introduced has no big role to play as he is just another passing cloud in the big movie. For MI fans this should be a good one for others this should be just another movie.

The Descendants (2011)

George Clooney gives a great performance in this movie. The movie shows him as a dad caught up in work always (as most dads) and doesn't have time for his family. He is forced to spend time home as his wife meets with an accident and is on her death bed. This father not knowing how to deal with her little daughter goes on to bring in his elder one from college. The coming of the elder daughter is where the story starts to roll when the dad is informed about his wife’s relationship with another man. The dad as always tries to find out who the man is and how he deals with this guy and his family is the whole story. There is a parallel story on this where this dad is a sole trustee to a huge property that they are about to sell and his decision for that property also comes as a result of the happenings on dealing with the situation at hand. A story that today’s generation where life is fast and stops for none. A great movie with lovely picturization.

The Artist (2011)

It gives me great delight to be able to start writing about my fave hobby after a long time. The reason I write is this movie. The Artist is a complete silent movie where in the memories of olden times come alive for the new generation to see. Myself have not seen any silent movies before this (other than Charlie Chaplain of course). But watching this movie has really got me thinking about how much effort the artists in these kind of movies had to put in to get the expression as the same cant be provided through words. This movie shows the life of an artist who is at the peak of his career with silent movies when the talkies are introduced. For people who don’t know what a talkie is, it is a movie just like the silent movies which has voice added. So after the introduction of the talkies what happens to him is the story. A lot of nice words to put in for this film but stopping here so that I don't wish to ruin the movie while you see it. A must see film and one that will provide delight the set the lights the back ground score everything makes it a real treat to watch. Kudos to the team that made this film. Everybody please try to watch this film and understand what real acting is all about.
