Surrogates (2009)

In a futuristic world we find that man becomes more isolated and stays in his house all the time while trying to feel what is happening in the outside world using a robot (surrogate). The creators of the surrogate project in the movie convince people that they can do all they want to do in the real world just like reality using their surrogates. What is better is that people can design their surrogates like they want them to be. The surrogates are so sophisticated that people can so what they dream of doing in the real world just from the comfort of their homes. All is well isn't it??? Not for long… This story shows people who oppose this technology and kill people who use surrogates. The cop (Bruce Willis) looses his surrogate in one of his chases for the killer. He is forced to continue as a human and voila he faces reality… The story goes to answer one simple question “How do you save humanity when the only thing that’s real is you?”Action packed, futuristic and a nice storyline for people who are always stuck up with technology.

The Tournament (2009)

 

The tournament as it is names is all about a rare tournament that happens once in 7 years in some remote and calm place. What’s so rare about this tournament might be the question running through the readers mind? This tournament is where the worlds greatest assassins are called for a final showdown of their talents, in an all out battle to the last man standing. All contestants called in for the tournament are tagged with a tracking device. They are all given trackers to find the other contestants. The movements of these contestants will be tracked using a trackers and any calls to emergency hotlines scrambled. The host puts in a new cap on the tournament when he announces, that if there is more than one contestant alive after 24 hrs from start of the game all standing players will die. The tournament is for $10,000,000 dollars. The big heads bet on each contestant and watch them live through the hundreds of CCTV cameras around the town. The story goes as the host in the movie says: 30 contestants; 24 hours; 1 rule, “KILL OR DIE”. To make things even better, one contestant decides to go invisible even from the eyes of the host. The zen, the defending champion, fingers, the gypsy and others… One last question, “Who will survive?”… is it going to be passion, revenge, money or…. A real action packed film…

2012 (2009)

2012 is an epic movie about the apocalypse that is to happen in the near future. The year 2012 is now the most talked about year in the history of mankind for one reason. The reason being none other than the curiosity behind the various prophecies that all point to one date in the year 2012. This date is supposed to be the end of the world. The opening scene shows a scientist from America coming to India to study the earths reaction and here he meets up with the science team which has been monitoring the earths movements for years to try and get a fix on the date they should start evacuation procedures to survive apocalypse. The Indian team says that they need to start evacuation immediately and there from chaos starts as the earth starts to make its mysterious switch (the pole shift). The movie goes on to show how this scientist and a writer (John Cusack) he meets along with millions of people trying to survive the ultimatum. The climax being the answer to the big question, “Will mankind survive?”. Destructive force of the earth has been shown in an exclusively new dimension. All the calamities that could ever happen at the same time. The Graphics experts have played their part well. Brilliance at the camera end of the work the sound mixing is extra ordinary. A real treat to watch. The story in fact when I watched it seemed to be said in bits and pieces but factors like the graphics, sound and camera makes us watch the movie till the last moment. Loved the way the Indian scientist is talked about in the end. Please watch this movie on the screens and promote good films like these… In fact you will love the sounds and picturization better on the big screen.

Blue (2009) - Hindi

Blue, as the picture above shows is a lot about under water diving (coral diving), bikini, life style, cruises and bikes. To add to all that was mentioned before is the cast of Sanjay, Akshay, Zayed, Katrina and Lara (even Kylie Minogue makes a guest appearance for one of the songs). All these make this a pretty expensive movie doesn’t it? now the question remains what are the trying to get with this combination? What else could it be other than treasure. The team has come up with a story where two very good friends have a happy time and there come a problem to the brother of one of them. The other friend convinces him that the riches in the ocean (a ship (lady in blue) that sunk in 1949) is the only way to get them out of the trouble. At last the friend gives in to go and get that treasure. Twists start when problem follows them to the place where the secret treasure was and the story ends with whether they get the treasure or is it agony and pain that awaits them. A not so wonderful story but the camera has given the picture a live feeling and the underwater shots especially have to be given credit. World class camera effects and sound mixing, a good entertainer to watch.

Deadline (2009)

Deadline is a story about a female writer who is trying to get away from her guy who has tried to kill her thinking that the baby in her womb is not his. The police seem to have taken the guy in custody. The writer with her friend rides to a big house in the middle of no where, where she is supposed to stay (to recover from the past trauma and to complete her story before the deadline). She sends her friend off and then starts getting accustomed to the house. She find mysterious things happening around her. She investigates further and finds video tapes of a couple. She views them to find what happened to them and so on. As in the usual movies she gets too involved and the end is about whether or not she finds out what happened to that couple. Also a big question always linger that is what happens to the writer herself? A good thriller movie taken with care to make sure that the details are all right. The camera has given it the right essence, making it a good movie to watch.

Crank 2 - High Voltage (2009)

All who have watched Crank would know about the famous Chev Chelios (Jason Statham), the hired killer. The last we saw of him in Crank was that he falls down from a helicopter without a chute and falls onto an intersection after crashing a car. After that they show him being moved by some Triad gang to a facility where his heart is removed and an artificial heart (which runs on electricity) put in just to keep him alive until the other parts could be removed. Our man gets to his senses and makes a run to get his heart back. History repeats itself when he finds out that he has very limited time to live. While on his run, he meets many people from the earlier story and a series of events unfold which goes uncontrollable. An action packed story of a man who is ready to do what it takes to live. Action and definitely Chev Chelios all the way (that's the best way to describe this film).

Crank (2006)

All action packed movie Crank starring Jason Statham as Chev Chelios. The movie starts with Chev Chelios feeling weird and is asked by a Cuban on the phone to watch a video. The video shows the Cuban letting Chev Chelios know that he has been drugged with Chinese poison and will live only for an hour. He calls his medic who informs him that if he has to live, he needs adrenaline, he further informs that there is no other cure except from the Chinese antidote. Chevy goes behind the people to get the cure and ends up meeting others as well and settling scores. In the middle he gets his gal to go with him and astonishingly the way he tries to keep her from knowing what was going on is really astonishing (but not very long before she knows it all). Does he live to find the antidote? Does he survive? That is what this movie is all about.

Shorts (2009)

From the director of Spy Kids comes yet another kids movie. The movie is called “Shorts”, for a reason. It all starts when a boy who lives in the neighborhood of differences finds a wishing rock. The boy and his friends start wishing for worldly things from castles to the extreme of aliens. The real fun part of the story starts when the adults want their hands on the rock. Once it is in the hands of the adults, wishing gets to the next level and at last the film ends with explaining how everything comes back to normal. The narrator (Ted, the boy) doesn’t remember the events in the order it happened as many things happened simultaneously, hence he goes on to tell the story as “Shorts” (events explained in shorter versions and un-orderly manner). Overall a fun movie which has a serious thought. A good movie to watch for passing time.

Where the Wild Things Are (2009)

“Where the wild things are” is a great movie in the recent time.  The story is based on one of Maurice Sendak's classic children's story. This story goes on to show how MAX an adamant kid (in the pic above) creates a world of his own in a forest that is inhabited by ferocious creatures, after being sent to bed without supper (as punishment) by his mother . The kid creates his own world, the creatures though large in size than the kid believe that he is stronger than all of them, they crown the boy their king and start following what he says. As the boy gets to know the creatures better and better the creatures start getting out of hand. The story goes on to show how he understands why his mother punished him and ends with his mother feeding him as a sign of forgiveness. A beautiful and simple story said straight.

Ink (2009)

Ink is a very slow going movie to start of with. Movie lovers who don’t have the patience for it are sure to miss out what a nice story it is. This movie is about a father who moves away from his family concentrating on creating an image for himself. The movie starts by showing how the father meets up with an accident, goes on to explain the sequence that lead to the accident and how this accident is going to reunite him with the only family he has left, his daughter. The usage of chaos theory as part of the story is a brilliant move which tells us how the story which starts as a battle between the good dream makers and the bad inkemists help reuniting father and daughter. The usage of different camera techniques give the movie the thriller feel that is required. The camera has covered the gloomy areas in a different angle which makes it more vivid to watch. Over all it is a simple story said in a different and effective manner.

Taking a passion to the next level…

Hi all…

Nick here with a whole new blog. This is going to be all about taking ma passion of watching movies to the next level. I am going to try and describe movies that I have seen and the ones that I will be in the coming days. Will try hard to give you a just review that will not incorporate my views rather project an overall outline of the story without breaking the climax of the same. This blog here is also a step that I take to put my skill set to the test against critics who would dare read through and comment on my posts.
